Bursitis
Overview
Bursa are small, fluid-filled sacs that act as cushions between tendons and bone. They help to reduce the friction of the tendon on the bone and are usually located near joints. These bursa can become inflammed which commonly occurs in the shoulder, elbow, hip and sometimes underneath the IT band.
Symptoms

Auto Accident Injuries
An auto accident should be taken seriously regardless of the severity of accident. Even though it may appear as a minor fender bender accident, it can still lead to long term chronic changes if left untreated. Some common injuries we see associated with an auto-accident include whiplash to the neck, muscle sprain/strains throughout the back, numbness and tingling into the extremities, changes in posture and loss of range of motion. Chiropractic has been show to be very beneficial in treating most auto related injuries. We utilize our adjustment skills, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to decrease inflammation, decompress the joints, improve function, and stabilize the spine.

Carpal Tunnel
Carpal Tunnel syndrome is a common disorder that affects the wrist and hand. It occurs when the meidan nerve in the wrist is compressed by the tissues surrounding it. The symptoms of carpal tunnel are pain, numbness, tingling or burning in the wrist or hand. As carpal tunnel progresses it can lead to weakness in the hand and damage to the median nerve. Our treatment focuses on decompressing the tissues in the wrist that surround the median nerve. Through adjustments, soft tissue work, stretching and rehabilitation exercises, we work to decrease the inflammation, improve mobility and create stability in the wrist.

Degenerative Joint Disease
Degenerative Joint Disease also known as DJD is very broad and unspecific term that many doctors use as a diagnosis. Although it is a poor diagnosis, it still describes what is being done to a joint as a whole. Degenerative joint disease describes that break down of a certain level or levels in the spine. This usually involves some sort of loss in disc height, extra bone formation, and changes in the curvature of the spine. We work to identify the root cause of pain and to reduce further degeneration of the area. Through chiropractic care we can reduce pain, increase range of motion, and help restore normal motion in the spine.

Disc Bulge/Herniation
A disc bulge or herniation can occur at any level of the spine, although it is more commonly seen in the low back and neck. The discs in the spine are what seperate each vertebrae. The outer portion of the disc is a fibrous cartilage with many layers. The inside is a jellylike substance. When a disc injury takes place, whether it is due to a traumatic event or wear and tear over time, it usually results in damage to the cartilage layers. The damage to the cartilage layers then leads to the jellylike substance creating a bulge or even a herniation in the disc. The symptoms associated with this type of injury can vary greatly. We commonly see mild to severe back pain with or without radiating pain into the buttock or leg. Other symptoms we see with it are numbeness, tingling, burning, and sharp shooting pain. To treat this kind of condition we use adjustments, soft tissue techniques, and lumbar core stabilization exercises to help decrease inflammation, reduce pain, restore normal motion and stabilize the spine.

Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder also known as adhesive capsulitis can be a very debilitating condition. It is usually descibed as severe pain and stiffness in one of the shoulder joints, which leads to an extreme decrease in the mobility of the shoulder. It is typically seen in those over 40 that have recently experienced a shoulder injury, surgery, or just from repetitive use. Chiropractic has been shown to be an effective method in treating frozen shoulder through adjustments, stretching, soft tissue work, and rehab exercises.

Headache/Migraine
Many people suffer from headaches or migraines. This could be due to a head injury, neck injury, whiplash, dehydration, tension, stress, or even from medication. There are also many different types of headaches and migraines. The most common similarity between them is they have tension in the muscles in the head and neck. This is why chiropractic can be so effective against them. Adjusting and soft tissue work can help improve function to the nervous system and help relax tight and spastic muscles. They also help to decrease inflammation and improve range of motion.

Hip Pain
The hips are a ball and socket joint and engaged in nearly every way we move. Pain in this area can be very debilitating for the patient. The cause of this pain can be from a number of different sources such as arthritis, labral tear, IT band pain, referred pain from the low back and many more. We perform a thorough consultation and exam to determine the source of the pain and then treat the underlying cause. Through chiropractic care we can reduce inflammation, decompress the area, decrease muscle spasm, improve mobility and strengthen surrounding musculature.

Jaw Pain
Many people suffer from jaw pain. This is typically due to temporomandibular joint disorder. The symptoms associated with this are popping or clicking in the jaw, tenderness, achiness, stiffness, tight muscles around the jaw and difficulty chewing. Chiropractic an be very beneficial in treating TMJ disorder. We use different soft tissue techniques to help restore normal muscle tissue in the muscles around the jaw. We also use adjusting to help decrease inflammation, decompress the joint, and restore normal movement within the joint.

Knee, Ankle, and Foot Pain
The lower leg joints can have pain for a number of various reasons. Some of the common symptoms we see at these joints are decreased range of motion, stiffness, swelling, tenderness and weakness. Whether it’s from years of wear and tear or a traumatic event, chiropractic can help. We utilize our adjustment skills, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to help reduce swelling, stiffness, and inflammation. We also work to strengthen the surround musclulature to help stabilize the joint and prevent future injury.

Low Back Pain
The cause of low back pain can be a number of different issues. Dr. Mathews will performa thorough history and examination to determine the underlying cause of the low back pain. Many symptoms include dull achiness, sharp shooting pain, numbness, tingling, burning, and radiating symptoms. Once the underlying cause is identified, we apply adjustments, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to decrease inflammation, realign the joints, decompress the joints, restore normal motion, and stabilize the spine.

Neck Pain
Neck pain can be associated with a number of different causes. These can range from a whiplash type injury to waking up with a kink in the neck. We commonly see those working at a computer all day coming into the office to find relief. Some of the common symptoms we see at these joints are decreased range of motion, stiffness, swelling, tenderness and radiating pain. Whether it’s from years of wear and tear or a traumatic event, chiropractic can help. We utilize our adjustment skills, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to help reduce swelling, stiffness, and inflammation. We also work to strengthen the surround musclulature to help stabilize the joint, improve posture, and prevent future injury.

Pinched Nerve
A pinched nerve or a nerve entrapment is any type of compression on a nerve. This can occur at a number of different points in the body. Some of the common areas are the neck, low back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and many more. A pinched nerve typically causes numbness, tingling, burning or sharp pain at the point of compression and below. No matter where the compression is taking place, chiropractic can help. We utilize our adjusting skills, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to decompress, decreases inflammation, improve mobility, and improve structural function.

Sciatica
Sciatica is one of the most common conditions that we see. The sciatic nerve is a bundle of nerves that start in the low back and run down the back of the legs. As this nerve gets irritated either from a low back injury or some other source, the patient will experience various symptoms from the low back down into the leg. These symptoms can include sharp shooting pain, numbness, tingling, burning, and weakness. Most sciatica issues are caused by the low back. We utilize our adjustment skills, soft tissue techiques and lumbar core stabilization exercises to help reduce these symptoms. These tools help to decrease inflammation, restore normal spinal movement, and stablize the spine through lumbar core musculature.

Shoulder and Elbow Pain
The shoulder and elbow joints are some of the more common joints we treat outside of the spine. In the shoulder we tend to see issues with the labrum, rotator cuff, nervey entrapment, posture, and instability. The symptoms associated with these conditions are painful popping or clicking, tenderness, numbness, tingling, burning, stiffness, and loss of range of motion. Dr. Mathews will perform a thorough assessment to determine if chiropratic can help you. We utilize our adjusting skills, soft tissue techniques and rehab exercises to help decrease inflammation, decompress the joint, increase range of motion, stabilze the joint, and increase strength in the surrounding musculature.

Upper Back and Rib Pain
Many people suffer from upper back and rib pain. We see more and more people affected by this due to the increase in computer use, increase in phone use, and poor ergonomic work stations. Some of the symptoms we see associated with this are stiffness, pain with deep breathing, pain with movement, increased spinal curve, and scoliosis. We work to improve posture, mobility, and function, as well as decrease inflammation though adjustments, rehab exercises, and postural corections.

Work Injuries
Work related injuries can occur at any time. The most common types of injuries that occur in the workplace affect the low back or the neck. This type of injury affects the person not only physically, but financially as well. We understand this and do our best to get people back to work as soon as possible. We utilize our adjustment skills, soft tissue techniques, and rehab exercises to decrease inflammation, decompress the joints, improve function, and stabilize the spine. We also do our best to give ergonomic advice on how to prevent injury in the future.
